My 6 Values To Live a Long Life(Hopefully)

I want to share with you what my values are as this is what drives me every day. I believe my Values will be what will help me live a long and healthy life.

I know this sounds crazy but my personal goal is to live to be 135 years old . I know this is quite an ambitious goal (you likely think I am nuts) however I believe this is possible with a healthy lifestyle combined with medical breakthroughs that are happening as we speak.

I wanted to share my values with you that I believe will help me achieve this longevity goal. Hopefully these will help you in some way.

1.Value Good Health – Health is the key to enjoying all aspects of life and enjoying every moment of this great Life. As the saying goes “Health is Wealth”. I don’t profess to be perfect but I try to live every day as healthy as I can.

2.Fitness as a way of life – I love working out and the feeling it gives me and I hope it will help me hit my longevity goal. It has been proven that the longest living Healthy people “move” every day. Through a dedicated commitment to fitness I have had the good fortune  to represent Canada at the last 3 Triathlon World Championships.

3.Family – Family is the most important Value to me. I have a great family and I enjoy every moment with my wife Barb and our great children – Tim, Matt and Lauren. I try to spend as much time with them as i possibly can in Life. Even now when they are all in different cities we stay in touch every day through conversation and social media.

4.Friends– I totally enjoy all my close friends and the great times we have. You never know how important friends are until you really need them….as I have found out. I remember my dad saying to me when I was in my early 20’s that you are fortunate if you have 5 or 6 really good friends in your later years(that you can share anything with). At the time I thought he was crazy however as I get older I realize how true this really is.

5.Community and Charity –   We live and work in our great communities and we have a responsibility to give back to our communities. I have spent countless hours volunteering mainly on health related boards. It gives me a great sense of gratitude and a feeling of true satisfaction. To name a few, I have been on and chaired the YMCA board, Joseph Brant foundation board and am currently Co Chair of our Hospital Campaign to raise 60 Million dollars to build our new hospital.

6. Financially Successful -My goal is to be financially successful so that I can live all of my values above. I look at making money as a means to accomplishing all of my Values outlined above. For example, having financial success allows me to invest in my health, invest in my fitness, spend time with my family and friends as well as give time and money to Charitable causes.

I hope you can take something from me sharing this with you.

Have a great Healthy Day, Kev

  1. Great perspective/inspiration on financial freedom being a means to achieve your broader health, wellness and personal goals.

  2. Only to 135? As comedian Steven Wright once said, “I intend to live forever. So far, so good.”

Thank you, as always, for excellent and motivating insights – many of which are around the value of relationships in this case.

To that end, where does spirituality/religion fit or not fit into your views about health, well-being and longevity? That is, a person’s relationship (if any) with a greater purpose in life beyond people/community and material things.

Hey, no soft-toss questions for you! Looking forward to your response.

  3. A simple and balanced approach to life Kevin, that I have seen you live out in the 15+ years we’ve known each other.

I hope Barb has a similar goal of 135, because I know you’re going to need her to get there. ?

  4. You totally Rock Kevin and I think you can do it. I could try and may need a little help from my friends with some botox. Just sayin! HAPPY CANADA DAY to you Barbara and the family
