7 Ways To Get Back On Track After the Holidays

What Am I Doing to Get Back On Track After The Holidays?

If you are like me, even with the best of intentions, it is easy to go off track over the holiday season. It is amazing how the abundance of opportunities to eat and drink encourage us to somehow do so. I had the best of intentions going into the holiday season however somehow I managed to overindulge even though that was not my plan.

Following a time like this, I find it really important to get back on track really quickly. As you know, many people set New Years resolutions. Although I also set some health goals for the year, what I really try to do following the holidays is just simply get back to my regular routine and get back on track. What amazes me is how quickly the body responds to this change in behaviour. Literally within a couple of days I find I feel better, have more energy, sleep better and I am much sharper.  I believe the body wants to feel good and heal itself and you can kickstart it and give it a boost by doing a few simple things.

Here is a list of the things I did personally to get back on track and I encourage you to do the same:

1.The Morning Shake

As you know, one of my staples is to have my morning shake every single morning. If you only do one thing this year to help your health, I would suggest you incorporate the morning shake into your daily routine. This is a great way to get your body “kickstarted” and fill your body with amazing fruits, vegetables and minerals first thing in the morning. I also found that by simply introducing this one health change a few years ago, it lead me towards introducing other beneficial health changes. For those that would like a refresher on the ingredients I put in my shake, you can access it here:http://kevinbradyhealth.ca/the-morning-shakenew-recipe/

2.Morning Lemon Water

One of the things I do first thing when I climb out of bed in the morning is have my freshly squeezed lemon water(or apple cider vinegar).  This is a great way to get the waste products from the previous day out of our system. In addition it helps cleanse the kidney and liver and ensures we start out our day in an Alkaline state. I squeeze a fresh lemon in a large glass of distilled water. I also add a little boiled water as it works best when the lemon water is lukewarm as it is easier for the body to absorb quickly.

3.Full compliment of Vitamins

After a time of overindulgence, our bodies are often tired from lack of sleep and energy loss and therefore our immune systems are compromised. I find that in addition to eating healthy, adding supplements helps to boost our immune system and get our body back on track quickly.

Some of my personal “go to” supplements are:

Vitamin C(I increase my dose when I am run down)

Multivitamin

Vitamin D(I increase my dose when I am run down)

Vitamin B

Curcummin(tumeric)

Magnesium

I do alter my supplements depending on the season, what my blood tests reveal and also whether I am in training/racing season or not. I should also mention that I am very careful about the brand of supplements that I take in as I want to be sure they are  “clean”, pure, organic and plant-based where possible.

4.Exercise Daily

Over the holidays, although I was skiing almost daily, I did very little additional aerobic exercise. So although I was active through skiing, I was out of my regular routine. I find one of the best ways for me to reset my system is get back to working out daily. In fact, the day before I went back to work after the holidays, I hopped on my indoor trainer and did a 2-hour easy ride. This was not that taxing on the body as I went at a very easy effort but it certainly reset my system and helped to sweat the toxins out.

5.Sleep

One of the best ways I find to get the body back on track is to get a good restful sleep. I accomplish this by going through my pre-bed routine and also trying to get to bed at a reasonable time. I managed this year to get at least 7 hours of sleep when I got back on my routine which allowed me to recover from my workouts and catch up on my sleep. When our systems are depleted and the immune system is compromised, the best way to replenish it is to revive it through rest. For those that missed the way I get a great nights sleep, you can access it here:http://kevinbradyhealth.ca/5-natural-remedi…or-a-great-sleep/

6.Eliminate/Reduce Alcohol Consumption

After the holidays following a period of overindulgence, it is important to reduce or even better cut out any alcohol consumption. As we know, alcohol depletes our immune system, affects our sleep patterns and overall saps our energy. So the best way to get the system back on track is to quickly reduce, cut down or eliminate any alcohol consumption. What I personally did following the holidays was I made the decision to cut out any alcohol during the week and I am trying to limit my weekend consumption to a maximum of 2 drinks per night on the weekends. I personally find that my system seems to be able to absorb and not be affected by 2 drinks but when I go over that amount it impacts me the next day.

7.Eat Smart

It goes without saying that one of the best ways to reset our bodies is to eat well. As most of you know, I eat a mainly plant-based, organic diet filled mainly with vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. So personally I made sure following the holidays that I got back on my normal food program to replenish and revive my system.

All of these are great ways to reset the system and get it back on track in a very quick order. The body naturally wants to heal and by engaging in the items I have outlined, you will kickstart your system back on track.

To summarize, here are the ways you can get back on track and kick start your system:

1.Have your Morning Shake

2.Have your Morning Lemon Water

3.Take your Supplements

4.Exercise

5.Get Your Sleep

6.Reduce Alcohol Consumption

7.Eat Smart

Wishing you and your family the healthiest year ever!
