6 Ways To “Re Set” Your Body

Contrary to popular belief, I do go off track from a health standpoint every once in a while and need to get back on track.
For those of you that read my Blog regularly, you would know that I believe in what I refer to as the 80/20 Rule. This means that I try to eat healthy and do the right things from a health standpoint 80% of the time. However some times, I tend do do my entire 20% of mis behaving all in one night or one weekend!
When I do this I find that it is really important to not beat myself up about how I have gone off track but instead to push my “Re Set” button and get things back on track right away.

Following my race in Sardegna, Barb and I travelled around Tuscany and Italy. Needless to say following the intense race I rewarded myself by over indulging in lots of great Italian Food and Wine. When we arrived home on the Saturday night, I felt it was time to Re Boot the system similar to what we do with our computers when they are jammed or get stuck.

There are certain steps I go through to push my Re Set button and I find this works whether I am off track for one night, one weekend or a week like after a holiday. I hope this will personally help you to push the Re Set button and get back on track when you need to.
Steps To Re Set The Body
1.Make the Conscious Decision to Reset
I find the first step is to first realize that you have gone off track and make the conscious decision to reset the body and get it back on track. I find that by mentally making the decision to get back on track the rest falls in place. I actually mentally use the words that I am going to “Re Set” the system. This could be a result of not eating the healthiest, overindulging in alcohol, not getting proper sleep or not sticking to my exercise routine. By having Intention to reset, you will set your mind and body in forward motion.

2.Exercise
When I have gone off track, nothing beats getting a good exercise session in to Re Set the system. This could simply be jumping on the bike or treadmill for 30 mins or going for a light walk. We arrived home from Italy late on the Saturday night and due to jet lag, I woke up when the sun was rising. I intentionally went out for a long, very slow and easy 15 k run. It was a gorgeous day, I was breathing the fresh oxygenated air, taking in all the sun, blue skies and connecting with nature. It truly was a Love Life(LL) run and was a great re boot for my system. Exercise also allows you to sweat and therefore serves as a healthy way to detox your body.

3.Shake
You likely know how much I believe in my morning shake. Since I had been travelling, it had been a while since I had had my shake so I was craving it. I filled it with all my regular healthy  organic frozen fruits, veggies, seeds and supplements and I must say it felt so amazing. Following my 15 k run I also had another green shake later in the day to further re energize my system. I refer to my daily shake as “2 Litres of Health“.If you want an update of the ingredients I put in my shake, here it is:http://kevinbradyhealth.ca/the-morning-shake/ ‎

4.Healthy Eating

Since I had gone off track and I made the conscious decision to get back on track and Re Set my system, I made the decision to eat right as well. For me, this means, very healthy plant based whole foods(non processed). As I outlined earlier, we can’t change what we have done in the past but we can change what we put in our  mouth moving forward. I find that by getting my eating back on track, it helps immensely in my re set.

5.Nightly Routine
I find it is important to get back in all my routines to Re Set my system which includes my nightly routine. This includes my lemon detox tea that I generally have in the evening. It also includes my Magnesium and ZMA prior to going to bed in order to relax the system and ensure that I have a good nights sleep. I did all of this on the Saturday evening after returning in order to re boot my system.

6.Get A Good Nights Sleep
Nothing beats a good nights sleep to get our systems back on track. The interesting thing I find is that when I get all the other components of my routine back in order as I have outlined above then the reward is a great sleep. In other words, by getting the other things in order including exercise, eating healthy, going through my nightly routine, all of this helps to ensure that I have a great sleep.
The Sunday after Sardegna I did have a good sleep but woke early due to the time change so went to the Y for an early morning “cleansing” swim and steam prior to going to work. Therefore due to everything I had done to reset my system  I arrived at work ready to go and full of the energy I needed to be present and perform my role to the best of my abilities.

My last point is that although one day of “Re Set” is good, it is important to stay on track. Therefore the entire week following our trip I did my best to follow the advice I have outlined above and had a great productive and high energy week.

I hope that by me sharing what I do to Re Set my system will help you the next time you go off track.

Wishing you and your family a great healthy day, Ke
